Miniature Carousel Builders Corner

This month's beautiful example of carousel art was constructed by Bill Bakner, Waynesboro, PA. and his wife, Kathryn, painted the pictures on the "picture board." The Bakners are charter members of the Miniature Carousel Builders organization and their carousel was displayed in the MCB Exhibit at the Valley Mall, Hagerstown, MD. These photos were taken at that time.

This was the fifth carousel constructed by Bill. It was built in 1996 and required 200 hours for construction.

The Details:

  • Base: 30" diameter
  • Carousel: 27" diameter; 20" Height
  • Twelve sweeps, three rows

This Crank Type carousel was hand-made and Bill hand-carved the animals. It features a menagerie of 32 animals, two chariots and 260 lights. The animals and chariots were painted by, his wife, Kathryn.

The Bakners frequently display their carousel in nursing homes in Franklin and Adams counties.
